On February 8th, friends of Maj Luc "Gaza" Gruenther gathered in Dardago for a traditional memorial for a fallen fighter pilot.
We gathered to toast to our fallen friend and fellow fighter pilot, we told stories, sang songs and the memorial culminated in the burning of a piano.
The legend involves a piano playing pilot during the Battle of Britain.
This pilot, whose name will forever be shrouded in mystery, was a truly fine piano player. After some tough missions the pilots could always look forward to enjoying the beautiful music and camaraderie that it inspired in the club.
One sad day the battle claimed another brave RAF pilot, the piano player. That evening when his comrades gathered at the club they realized that never again would they experience the magnificent piano playing of their friend and colleague.
They acknowledged he could never be replaced so in his memory they carried the piano outside the club and burned it.
We would like to thank the town of Dardago and all those that supported the base, Gaza's family and this memorial.

L'8 febbraio, noi amici del Maggiore  Luc "Gaza" Gruenther ci siamo ritrovati a Dardago per  rendere omaggio, come da tradizione, ad un pilota di caccia  caduto.
Ci siamo riuniti  per brindare al nostro amico e collega pilota scomparso, abbiamo raccontato storie, cantato canzoni e il memoriale si è concluso  con l'incendio  di un pianoforte.
La leggenda parla di un pilota pianista inglese durante la battaglia d'Inghilterra.
Questo pilota, il cui nome sarà per sempre avvolto nel mistero, era un pianista veramente bravo.
Al ritorno dalle loro rischiose  missioni, i piloti potevano  rilassarsi e godersi la bella musica del loro collega pianista, nello spirito di cameratismo che regnava nel circolo.
Un triste giorno la battaglia si prese la vita di un altro coraggioso pilota della RAF: il pianista. Quella stessa sera i suoi compagni, riuniti al circolo, si  resero conto che non avrebbero più goduto la magnifica musica del pianoforte del loro amico e collega.
Capirono che  lui non avrebbe mai potuto essere sostituito, e così, in sua memoria , portarono il pianoforte  fuori dal circolo e lo bruciarono.
Vorremmo ringraziare il paese di Dardago e di tutti coloro che hanno sostenuto la base, la famiglia di Gaza e questo memoriale.
